KEEP YOUR RELIGIOUS VIEWS PRIVATE

DATE TAUGHT: Sunday, April 7th 2019

TEACHERS: Vince Leung & Joyceson Canagaratnam

You’ve probably heard it said that, “Religious views should be kept private.”

This REASON FOR HOPE WORKSHOP seeks to tackle this important topic.

We live in a world where it is often considered taboo to bring faith into our workplace, school, or even general conversations. We’re told that we should keep our faith to ourselves and may even be met with hostility when we express views reflecting our Christian convictions.

  • How do we live missionally in such a context?

  • How are we salt and light in our world?

  • How can we share our faith with wisdom in a culture that is hostile to the Gospel message?

  • How do we even start Gospel conversations with our family, friends, co-workers and neighbours?

These are pressing questions today, but we are not without hope – God’s Word equips us for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

Further Resources

Below is a short list of recommended resources to help equip you to be bold in your witness for Christ.

Resources on Evangelism

Evangelism in a Skeptical World: How to Make the Unbelievable News about Jesus More Believable – Most Christians already know that they should be telling their friends about Jesus. But they have been poorly equipped with methods that are no longer effective in today’s post-Christian world. As a result, many people become frustrated, blame themselves, and simply give up. Evangelism in a Skeptical World is a textbook on evangelism that is ideal for the church or the classroom to equip Christians with the principles and skills they need to tell the unbelievable news about Jesus to friends in a skeptical world. The videos for this course are available for FREE HERE at The Gospel Coalition.

Evangelism And The Sovereignty Of God – How does God bring helpless sinners home to himself? If God is sovereign does that mean we’re off the hook? Resisting both complacency and anxiety, this short, punch-packing book argues that a robust faith (conscious or unconscious) in the supremacy of God’s government and grace is in fact necessary for successful evangelism.

Honest Evangelism: How to talk about Jesus even when it’s tough – Should evangelism be effortless? Here’s how to talk about Jesus even when it’s tough, awkward, or unnatural. Founded in a grace filled vision for seeking and saving the lost, this is a concise and crystal-clear statement on the why and how of evangelism. Easy to read and deeply biblical. Highly recommended for group study and establishing a vision for outreach ministry.

Resources on Bold Witness

The Gospel Comes with a House Key: Practicing Radically Ordinary Hospitality in Our Post-Christian World – With engaging stories from her own life-changing encounter with radically ordinary hospitality, Butterfield equips Christians to use their homes as a means to showing a post-Christian world what authentic love and faith really look like.

Unshaken: Real Faith in Our Faithful God – Calling Christians to a faith that does not waver in a God who does not lie, popular radio host and pastor Crawford Loritts challenges us to live fully for Christ, confident in God and his unshakable promises. Highlighting God’s faithfulness in the past, plan for the future, and presence for the here and now, Loritts will help you cultivate a bold faith capable of enduring whatever the world throws your way.

A Company of Heroes: Portraits from the Gospel’s Global Advance – Across the globe, the gospel is advancing through the work of Christians willing to risk everything in the hardest places. This book, written by a missions journalist as he traveled throughout twenty different countries, is filled with stories of Christians past and present whose examples of endurance, courage, sacrifice, and humility connect readers with God’s unstoppable work across the world. These heroes are simply ordinary people who have experienced the transformative power of a Savior who is alive and moving—and their stories will inspire readers to take faithfilled risks for the gospel.
