OUR STORY

The story of HOPE CHURCH TORONTO WEST began with our sending church, Hope BIble Church Oakville (formerly, Harvest Bible Chapel Oakville). Having already planted two vibrant churches, in Brampton and Niagara, the elders of Hope Bible Church Oakville prayerfully considered what was next in their mission to make disciples through church planting.

In January of 2012, God brought our founding pastor Jason Matta to join the staff at Hope Bible Church Oakville. They worked prayerfully to discern where God was calling them to plant next. It didn’t take very long to realize that God was putting the desire in their hearts to see another Gospel-centered, Word-proclaiming, prayer-dependent, Christ-exalting church planted right in the city of Toronto.

In June of 2012, twenty-two people gathered for our first prayer meeting in a Toronto apartment on Bloor Street. In July, we moved the prayer meeting into a larger home in the area. By August, we had outgrown the house and began to meet in the Holiday Inn on Dixon Road. Times of worship and prayer were vibrant, full of faith and expectancy. The prayer meetings continued to grow, and as more and more people came together to worship and pursue God, the vision of planting this new church became a reality.

In November of 2018, after 5 years of God’s faithfulness and growth, the elders of our church were led to choose a name that better reflected what we as a church were experiencing and desired to be. God was leading many broken and hurting people to our church family to find help, healing, restoration and ultimately the HOPE of Jesus Christ, so our name was changed from Harvest Bible Chapel Toronto West to HOPE CHURCH TORONTO WEST.

We are humbled and amazed at what the Lord is doing in and through us and we look to the future with great anticipation for what God will continue to do in our city.
