DISCIPLE-MAKER
TRAINING
“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
2 Tim 2:1-2
In 2 Tim 2, Paul exhorts Timothy to tap into gospel strength to multiply gospel ministry and gospel leadership. He then proceeds to describe the Christian life using 3 images. First, we are SOLDIERS who share Christ’s suffering and are focused on pleasing him (v3-4). Second, we are ATHLETES marked by discipline, training integrity (v5). Third, we are FARMERS who work hard (v6).
The lives of soldiers, athletes and farmers are hard! They require discipline, endurance and most importantly, training.
“Rather, train yourself for godliness”
1 Tim 4:7b
